Creative Ethical Web Design Dorchester Dorset
I am Anna Celeste Watson
Creative & Ethical Web Design in Dorset

I am an experienced Web Designer with an artistic background (BA Fine Art: Painting, London 2000) specialising in bespoke creative visual and user interface design for a diverse range of websites - from blogs, micro-sites and online brochure sites, to content managed and online shopping sites, and responsive websites optimised for tablet and mobile.

I aim to create intuitive and engaging websites that reflect your brand values, meet the needs of your target users, and truly make you stand out from your competitors.

I am based in Dorchester and have clients across Dorset, Sussex, London and the UK. I am committed to supporting more ethical, environmental and charity projects and I work with my Associates to provide a complete digital design and print service.

I hope that my work speaks for itself, so a selection of my most recent and favourite projects are showcased below and in my online Portfolio.

Hounds Off
Hounds Off
/ Hounds Off (Charity Logo / Branding / Responsive Website)
Hounds Off approached my partner Stu Jones and I to develop their logo and website so that they can more successfully communicate their brand to their target audience. They are a charitable organisation who specialise in offering support and advice to landowners affected by illegal hunt trespassing, and encourage the public to support the Hunting Ban and report wildlife crime.

We are really pleased they love the new compact, appealing and recognisable logo Stu has created, and the professional, easy to use layout for their new responsive website I am currently finalising the design for. The site is being built by my Associate Developers DR Solutions to launch this Winter 2014...

b3 architecture
/ b3 architecture (Wordpress CMS Portfolio Site)
I have recently redesigned the website for b3 architecture based in Poundbury near Dorchester in Dorset. They work on a range of projects from affordable housing to prestigious contemporary apartments and I am particularly impressed that they specialise in the design of Passivhaus eco homes for energy efficient buildings.

It is always a pleasure to work with great photography, and it means I could design a minimalistic, stylish and slick site to showcase a gallery of their work. The site has been built by my Associate Developers DR Solutions using Wordpress with added custom modules/plug-ins to support my bespoke design theme. Look out for the relaunch this Summer 2014 when the client have uploaded all their content using the CMS...

Yacht Gopher
/ Yacht Gopher (Logo / Branding / Illustrated Website)
I really enjoyed working on a micro-site for Yacht Gopher last Christmas, working with the branding, illustration and character design created by my Associate Partner Stu Jones. Yacht Gopher are a really passionate new business based near Poole here in Dorset, who specialise in providing bespoke race logistics and regatta support for Grand Prix Race Boats and Superyachts. They pride themselves on their dedicated, personal service and really wanted to offer something different from their competitors to illustrate their personality.

"[Anna] is extremely talented and I was confident that together [Stu Jones and Anna] would create the best possible website and complete it within the required time frame. I am extremely pleased with all the work carried out by Stu and Anna and I not only plan to use them again in the future when funds allow, but would also not hesitate to recommend them to others."

Tamsin Seabright, Founder of Yacht Gopher

Butterflies & Dragons
/ Butterflies & Dragons (Responsive / Online Shop)
I am particularly excited to have designed a fully responsive website which launched last Autumn for Butterflies & Dragons traditional toys and gifts for children. Designed and built using Bootstrap to adapt for all devices from desktops to tablets and mobiles, under the management of my Associate Developers at AccuWeb in Brighton. The company also pledged to donate some of their profits to the Woodland Trust and TreeAid, and to source sustainably produced wooden toys as well as offering a green delivery service.

"John [at AccuWeb] and the team have created us a beautiful website, that really works, meeting the brief exactly. They hand held us through the process from start to finish; overall a very impressive service."

Tony Kempster, Director Butterflies & Dragons

Dorset Energized
/ Dorset Energized (Branding / Illustrated Wordpress CMS Site)
As well as being the Blog Manager, Guest Blogger and Social Media Manager, I continue to develop the Dorset Energized website I designed and illustrated with my Associate Partner Stu Jones, working with my Associate Developers DR Solutions. We have recently implemented some new functionality based on recommendations by a Marketing Manager who used to work for the Soil Association, with more emphasis on special offers having now launched the Partner Packages as a way to work with the best and most trusted local renewable energy installers as well as top UK companies including Good Energy, Ecotricity and Nissan LEAF.

We have loads more ideas including for and iPhone & Android Mobile App so watch this space to see how the project continues to develop as a not-for-profit campaign!

Craft Carnival
/ Craft Carnival (Wordpress CMS Site)
Craft Carnival who organise major craft and garden events at beautiful venues across Dorset wanted a really simple but classy site with a balance of contemporary and traditional design to reflect their event style and to appeal to their target audience. The site was built  by my Associate Developers DR Solutions using Wordpress and new photography was completed by my Associate Photographer Pete Millson.

"From the moment I met Anna and gave her the brief to the magic moment when the website went live – on time and on budget – I was delighted with Anna’s designing skills, patience and professionalism. Our website is better than I could have ever imagined, beautifully designed and easy to navigate. I have had a lot of praise from people who have visited it. Within the first two weeks we've already had many enquiries and a high number of hits."

Kati Zombory-Moldovan, Craft Carnival Owner

Mulberry Bush
/ Mulberry Bush (Logo / Branding / Character Illustration / Responsive Website / Online Shop)
I am extremely excited to reveal the new website my Partner Stu Jones and I have designed under the management of my Associate Web Developers at AccuWeb in Brighton, which launched this August 2014.

We have been working hard on refreshing the brand identity of traditional toy mail order company Mulberry Bush and redesigning the whole site to make it fully responsive so it also works well on tablets and mobiles. As well as redesigning the logo so its more modern and works better across all platforms, we have created two (very cute I have to say!) bespoke characters called Mickey and Molly Mulberry. Stu has also refreshed the printed catalogue for the new Autumn collection.

Mulberry Bush, who are a small but very successful family business, were one of my first ever clients when I started out as a Web Designer in West Sussex over 12 years ago, and were nervous about refreshing their logo in particular after over 14 years, but say they are thrilled with the results and the new website and have already had good feedback from their customers, so I am really happy they returned to me as their Designer, and have trusted my Associates and I to help them move their brand forward...

Kipling Tours
/ Kipling Tours (Logo & Wordpress Travel Website)
I have just completed the logo and design for a brand new site for Kipling Tours who offer tailor-made holidays in Asia, Africa and South America, for the discerning and responsible traveller.

The client wanted a simple, boxy but classy and elegant, almost traditional and understated look and feel to portray the quality of the service on offer and maximise use of colourful photography, whilst above all being very easy to use. Although the client does not want the site responsive at this stage, I have designed it so that it can easily be turned into a responsive site in future.

The site is currently being built in Wordpress by my Associate Developers DR Solutions so look out for the launch this Autumn 2014.

/ Q-files (CMS Online Encyclopedia & Branding)
I can now finally reveal details of that top secret project I started working on some time ago...

My Partner Illustrator Stu Jones and I designed the website for Q-files - The Great Illustrated Encyclopedia, for children's book publishers Orpheus Books in Oxford. After a lot of hard work with thousands of articles and images being imported by the client over 2 years, with pain-stacking attention to detail, they officially launched the site built by my Associate Developers DR Solutions in June 2014.

We hope it will become known as THE best online encyclopedia and are already enjoying using it ourselves to look up all sorts of things!

/ Bournemouth Ambassador (Responsive Wordpress Multi-Site)
The National Coastal Tourism Academy in conjunction with Bournemouth Borough Council, Bournemouth University, Bournemouth Tourist Management Board and the Coastal Communities Fund, commissioned me, under my Associate Web Developers DR Solutions, to redesign and develop the Bournemouth Ambassador website which relaunched in May 2014.

The site was designed specifically to integrate with the Learn Dash plug-in to power the online training modules. Users view lessons then take part in quizzes - the first quiz being to become a Bournemouth Ambassador, to enhance employment skills and promote local tourism. The site is fully responsive using HTML5 to adapt to work well on all devices - from desktops and laptops, to tablets and mobiles.

The site has also been designed and built as a Wordpress Multi-Site so it can be easily used as a blueprint for other tourist boards and councils throughout the UK.

/ SEED Marketing (Parallax Scrolling / CMS Website)
Marketing and communications agency SEED who are run by ex-Saatchi personnel asked me to take up the challenge of creating a fully illustrated parallax scrolling website. Working with my Associate Partner Stu Jones we created an elegant design with subtle on-brand seed inspired illustrative details and content borders. My Associate Developers DR Solutions then built the site using Wordpress for the CMS and integrated Blog, with a simple but slick parallax scrolling movement to utilise the latest web technologies for an additional 'wow' factor.

SEED also have an ethical pledge to donate a micro-loan to the charity Kiva for every new project they get, to help a third world entrepreneur grow their own business.

The Designer Home Company
/ The Designer Home Company (Wordpress Shop)
My Associate Developers DR Solutions asked me to design an online shopping site for The Designer Home Company who offer chic and elegant furniture and accessories for home interiors, sourced from the leading designer brands not usually found on the high street including Porta Roma, Ralph Loren and Liberty Furnishings.

The site has been built in Wordpress to launch this Summer/Autumn 2014 when the client have uploaded all their content using the CMS...

/ ethicaledge® (Logo / Branding / Illustrated Website)
One of my all time favourite projects has to be ethicaledge® - the UK's first ever charity recruitment agency who specialise in connecting digital marketing managers, social media specialists and talented communications people with amazing charity jobs. Working with my Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones we created the logo, branding, illustrations and character design.

We were particularly pleased the site was shortlisted by the respected design industry magazine New Media Age's Site Inspections with very good ratings for the design and branding, and was recommended as 'one to keep an eye on'.

"Over the years, I have managed numerous websites for my own clients, and I can say that Anna is one of the best designers I have had the pleasure to work with. It was important to me that the sites were a visual representation of the personal approach I take to working with clients and candidates, and nothing like the predictable and soulless sites that are plentiful in the recruitment industry."
