The Gilded Teapot & The Designer Home Company

As I continue to finalise the artwork for a fully responsive shopping site for Butterflies & Dragons under Accu-Web, and as 3 other complex site builds are in production and being tested by DR Solutions, I have 2 more exciting web design projects lined up this Spring/Summer!

I will be redesigning the online shop for The Gilded Teapot ethical tea and coffee emporium based here in Dorchester, Dorset, working with their new branding and packaging which is just out of production (you can see their current site on www.thegildedteapot.com).

I will also be working under DR Solutions to create the logo and a Wordpress e-Commerce site for the Designer Home Company run by Wonersh Interiors.

My Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones and I are also still planning on launching our own joint website under a new studio name (if we ever get a chance to fit it in-between jobs!) and are also going to be creating the logo, print work, website and video theatre projections for my Dad Nick Ashron's exciting fantasy adventure musical 'The Seven Winds' so looks like a pretty busy but creative Summer... just need to make sure we make time to fit in plenty of walks out in nature and tea breaks in the garden with the cats to keep our sanity!!!

Butterflies & Dragons - Toys & Gifts for Children

This month I have started work on redesigning a shopping site for Butterflies & Dragons who sell traditional toys and gifts for children, and working under the management of one of my Associate Web Developers John Dillon at Accu-Web in Brighton.

Funnily enough I started out working with John 12 years ago on another site for traditional children's toys, but things are very different now that the web has moved on, so we are designing this site to be fully responsive so that it adapts to work well on all devices - from desktops and laptops, to tablets (big and mini!) and mobiles - and without compromising on user experience or SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

We are aiming to re-launch the site later in the Summer so watch this space...

We Need You Poster Gets Pride of Place in Lord and Lady Fellowes Home!

Well they say imitation is the best form of flattery and when it comes to artwork and websites for my clients I obviously don't agree, but the humble poster I designed for my group Compassionate Dorset (the local supporter group for Compassion in World Farming) using my partner Stu Jones cow illustration was of course a reference to the most copied and renowned poster of all time - the Britons wants you recruiting poster from the First World War featuring Field Marshal Lord Kitchener...

...And now our cow poster is famous too! Well nearly - it has a place of honour anyway.
We are very excited that a copy of it now resides in the home of Lord and Lady Fellowes of West Stafford! Emma Fellowes and Julian Fellowes (of Downton Abbey fame) hosted a fete last Summer where we had a stall for Compassionate Dorset and not only does it turn out she is a huge animal lover but she also happens to be a direct descendant of Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener himself and she told me she collects all the parodies of the Kitchener Britons wants you poster and displays them on their huge wall in their guest bathroom!

Apparently it "made her day" and they "are thrilled" with the print of the poster she asked us to send them.

I think that's about as close to fame as we've got apart from being featured in Web Designer Mag and Cosmo magazine so we're pretty chuffed with that and I've been meaning to post about it for a while, so there you are!!!

Cruelty-Free International
March 2013

Spring Bunnies, Ricky Gervais, Associates, Infographics and Websites!

My Partner Illustrator Stu Jones and I are continuing to work on several illustrated websites at the moment which are in development with my Associate Developers DR Solutions, and we hope to announce details here once the sites are live later this Spring, so we can't wait to show you those on our portfolios soon...

We are also excited to announce that we will be merging our companies/websites/brand when we have decided on our new studio name! We will be working pretty much as we do anyway from our home offices in Dorset, but are hoping to specialise more in a niche market where clients want a truly bespoke website and/or illustration and have a dedicated marketing budget to invest in something unique. We will also continue to be available to be subcontracted individually on a freelance basis too.

I am also delighted to be working again on an online shopping site under the management of one of my Associate Web Developers John Dillon at Accu-Web in Brighton this Spring, so it will be great working with him again.

Although the credit all goes to Stu, I am also extremely excited that Stu and I were recommended by one of our lovely clients to create an infographic style timeline for BUAV / Cruelty-Free International to mark the upcoming ban on animal testing for cosmetics in the EU. Stu had to chuckle when he received a very close-up photo of Cruelty-Free International's Ambassador Ricky Gervais grinning whist holding a rabbit in his inbox!!!

For more information visit: www.stujones.com
and
www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/en/a/the-story-of-our-campaign-to-end-animal-testing-for-cosmetics-in-the-eu

On a more serious note, in case you hadn't noticed, animals are very close to our hearts and we have also worked with Viva!, Lush Cosmetics, and along with our volunteering for Compassion in World Farming, we would love to do more infographics and generally a lot more design work for animal welfare, humans rights and environmental charities, so watch this space!...

CMS Designer Portfolio Package for Dorset Craft & Garden Shows

I have just launched my first new site for 2013 - a brand new website for Craft Carnival who organise major craft and garden events at beautiful venues across Dorset. They wanted a simple but classy site with a balance of contemporary and traditional design to reflect their event style.

The site has expanded from my Designer Portfolio Package using Wordpress with added custom modules/plug-ins for the image gallery, SEO and to support my bespoke design theme. The package is aimed at creative individuals such as; artists, designers and photographers who want a simple, stylish, image led and fully content managed portfolio site to showcase a gallery of their work.

New photography was also completed by my Associate Photographer Pete Millson.

Look out for the launch of the redesigned Toolex site soon too...

20thcdesign.com Launched

This Autumn/Winter I have been very busy working on several projects which are either in progress or being built by my Associate Developers to be launched in 2013, including; Toolex, The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy, Craft Carnival, as well as some illustrated sites with my Partner Illustrator Stu Jones including; SEED Marketing Communications, Armada Resourcing, and that top secret publishing site!

I am very pleased to have also just launched a brand new bespoke site for 20thcdesign.com built by my Associate Developers DR Solutions. It was based on my Designer Portfolio Package but went much further - essentially as an online shop just currently excluding ecommerce, and apparently it nearly pushed the capabilities of Wordpress as a Content Management System to its limits with its custom modules! Wordpress really is becoming the blog and CMS of choice for most clients and web agencies so we will continue to be creating many sites using Wordpress as well as using our own bespoke CMS.

20thcdesign.com has some fantastic 20th century retro and vintage furniture, design and decorative arts including Bauhaus, Art Deco and pieces by respected names such as Charles & Ray Eames, so I aimed to make the pieces speak for themselves with a simple and stylish Bauhaus inspired design, and if you like the site please share it via the integrated 'share this' options!

Big Lottery Funded Website Redesign for The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy

I have just launched a redesigned site for The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy (FCRT) who offer equine facilitated therapy in the New Forest including Weekly Riding Therapy and a unique 3 year residential Further Education Through Horsemastership Course for young adults with learning difficulties.

The site uses a bespoke CMS and is optimised for accessibility, was designed alongside the EFT Resource and partly funded by the Big Lottery.

They have already had many comments on how attractive the new design is and how much easier it is to find information, which is great to hear!

Anya17 Wins Anti-Slavery Day Media Awards 2012

I am thrilled to announce that Anya17 has won 'Best stage or film production dealing with human trafficking' at the Anti-Slavery Day Media Awards 2012.

Anya17 is a one-of-a-kind opera that seeks to expose the desperate plight of sex trafficking victims in the UK. Composed by award winning composer Adam Gorb, directed by award winning director Caroline Clegg, with libretto by Ben Kaye who instigated the whole project, the opera premiered with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Ensemble 10/10 on March 7th 2012, which I attended as a guest and was blown away by!

My Partner Illustrator Stu Jones created the Anya17 logo and I created the website and Wordpress Blog and am also a guest blogger.

Following the succes of this media award, the opera will now also be staged in Europe and Romania in 2013 which is fantastic news.

Read my blog posts on Anya17 for more details:

Dorset Energized
September 2012

And the 'Blog of the Day' is... Dorset Energized!

As I advise most of my clients to invest some time in creating and updating their own Blog, it's about time I had one myself! However, it's the usual story with Web Designers or Developers - we're just so busy making websites for other people, our own is usually last on the list of priorities! Plus, fortunately I get enough web traffic through my general meta content that I don't need to invest in more on-going SEO... at the moment anyhow!

However, my partner Illustrator Stu Jones and I are thinking about launching a joint blog on design in the next few months when we are less ridiculously busy, so look out for that... But in the meantime I have become a bit of a regular blogger on a voluntary basis for Dorset Energized, where I also moderate all blog posts by a growing number of authors, so I was rather chuffed that it got picked as PaperBlog's 'Blog of the Day' on 17th September for our "inspiring articles about sustainability"!

You can check out all my own blog posts for Dorset Energized here: http://www.dorsetenergized.co.uk/archives/author/anna-celeste

Autumn Projects - SEED / Toolex / Armada / 20th Century Design

I am very lucky to have a diverse range of projects afoot at the moment and am always particularly happy to be working with my Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones. We will be creating a new site for ethical recruitment agency Armada Resourcing based over in Norwich, who donate 100% of their profits to charity. We will also be redesigning a site for SEED Marketing Communications - a creative marketing company run by ex-Saatchi personnel and based in Worcestershire (whose current site is on www.seed-communications.com).

It is also very nice to be working again with my Associate Print Designers Studio401, as I am currently redesigning the Toolex website based on the new branding and brochure they created for them.

I am also designing a Wordpress site dealing in 20th Century Design.

And... that top secret publishing site's design has now been signed off so I am working with Stu on some wallpaper illustrations for the site while my Associate Developers DR Solutions build the CMS site - can't wait to show you that site next year, but will just have to...

Big Lottery Funded Website on Equine Facilitated Therapy Launches

I have just launched a website for a documentary film project for EFT (Equine Facilitated Therapy) - an initiative from the educational arm of the White Lantern Film Group - funded by the Big Lottery. The site uses a bespoke CMS and includes animated full-screen background images, video clips, an online directory for EFT related organisations and authors, plus a Wordpress blog.

White Lantern Film Group are also funding the new website for one of the main contributors to the EFT documentary - the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy based in the New Forest - whose site I have redesigned, and which is currently in development so look out for more news soon...

Dorset Energized Gets Plugged In!

I am very excited to have now fully launched the Dorset Energized website in late April.

Working with my Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones, we were initially asked by members of the Dorset Sustainable Community Energy Group to present a concept for the overall look and feel for a website back in September 2011. After getting the thumbs up from the group we put up a holding page with a mailing list sign-up form and social networking share options and continued to plan the full site. In early March 2012 the site developed into a micro-site with a blog in time for promotion during Climate Week, and at end of the April the full site went live in time for a presentation to a Green Group Gathering in Dorset. My Associate Developers DR Solutions have set Dorset Energized up as a fully content managed site using the ever popular Wordpress.

There are still a few minor tweaks and additions to follow, but we hope that the site will get people Energized (!) and connected to renewable energy here in Dorset and beyond (and we hope to get funding to expand the concept to other counties and nationally in the UK too).

By the way, you may loosely recognise a couple of the people in the illustrations!!!

Spring/Summer Ethical Web Projects

It may look like things have been quiet over the Winter but far from it!!! I have been working with my partner Illustrator Stu Jones designing a large website for a pioneering company in London who specialise in User Experience Design and end-to-end customer experience which was built by their in-house Web Developers and went live in March.

We are also finalising the website for Dorset Energized to launch at the end of April/May, and my Associate Developers are busy completing websites for equine therapy related projects EFT and The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy.

I have also been working on the concept design for an exciting new publishing website that really is top secret so I can't reveal any designs or details until the launch later this Summer/Autumn.

This Summer I will also be designing two different ethical online shopping sites selling eco-friendly goods (look out for more details soon) and am currently creating a website for Railway Eco Cottage - a holiday let in Dorset that has been lovingly renovated in an eco conscious way by the owner Catherine Fisher. The site will launch later this Spring.

My partner Illustrator Stu Jones and I have launched a new limited edition t-shirt under Compassionate Dorset in aid of the animal rights charity Viva! to help raise funds to save two young highland steers Hamish and Dougal from slaughter in Cape Cornwall and send them to a new home at the Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk.

The limited edition organic t-shirts for men and women are now available to buy with all profits being donated to the Viva! campaign to 'Save Hamish & Dougal'.

Anya17 Opera on Human Trafficking

Following on from the logo my Partner Illustrator Stu Jones created in Autumn 2011 for Anya17 and having initially set up a basic holding page and Wordpress Blog, I have now launched the full website in January 2012 to form the next stage in the show's publicity campaign.

Composed by award winning composer Adam Gorb, directed by award winning director Caroline Clegg, with libretto by Ben Kaye, this unique opera will be premiered by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Ensemble 10/10 on March 7th 2012.

Anya17 seeks to expose the desperate plight of sex trafficking victims in the UK. Stu and I are working closely with the co-founder Ben Kaye on a completely voluntary basis - inspired by Ben's passion to bring this horrendous growing trade in human sex slaves into the light.

With thanks to the help of my very supportive Associate Web Developers DR Solutions for hosting and coding work.

CMS Designer Portfolio Package for Dorset Artist Sam Cannon

I have just launched a website for local artist Sam Cannon using my new CMS Designer Portfolio Package, which I have created specifically for creative individuals such as; artists, designers and photographers who want a simple, stylish, image led and fully content managed portfolio site to showcase a gallery of their work.

I originally gave Sam some free advice by phone and email about a site she was setting up herself in Dreamweaver, but having struggled to get the site up and running, I am delighted she returned to me to create a site we hope shows off the quality and diverse range of her drawings and paintings, to encourage sales and commissions.

Compassionate Dorset Celebrates 2 Years of Compassion!

This month I am celebrating the 2nd birthday of Compassionate Dorset - the animal welfare group I run as the local supporter group for the leading farm animal welfare charity Compassion in World Farming (my favourite charity!).

I can hardly believe it was 2 years ago I had the crazy notion of starting and running a small voluntary/community group, and I'm quite chuffed we've managed to muster up 40 local group supporters, and we've had an event around every 6 weeks on average, from cake sales in town, stalls at local festivals, to our own film nights, and of course we continue to develop our Compassionate Tee-Shop.

I only wish I had more 'spare' time to do even more creative projects for Compassionate Dorset, but of course I will keep doing all I can, and we are planning The Factory contemporary art show for 2012, I'll be setting up a Blog at long last, and I hope to develop ideas for a couple of illustrated books, and develop the branding for the shop and expand the range so we're all set for world domination! Who knows, I may even get back into my own art and illustration work for it as well, but in the meantime a HUGE thank you to all the talented illustrators who have been involved so far including my Partner Stu Jones who I always love working with... keep watching this space...

ethicaledge® Reviewed by New Media Age 'Site Inspection'

I have just launched the website for ethicaledge® - the first charity recruitment agency to specialise in connecting digital marketing managers, social media specialists and talented communications people with amazing charity jobs. I created the whole brand including the logo, and collaborated with my Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones on several page illustrations, as well as completing a separate blog for Lauren Bates, the founder of ethicaledge®, with the help of my Associate Web Developers DR Solutions.

Lauren wanted something completely different to stand out from the generally mediocre, safe and stuffy corporate world of recruitment websites. The site needed to be friendly, inspirational, easy to use, and specifically exclude a jobs board to encourage users to get in touch to talk with a real person!

We are very excited that the site has made it to the shortlist of Site Inspections in the design industry magazine New Media Age getting a good score for 'Usability' and 'Branding' based on its simple 'eye-catching cartoon-style design' and was recommended as 'one to keep an eye on' once the site content builds up, so watch this space...

Dorset Energized

Once again I am very happy to be working with Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones on stage 1 of a fully illustrated website for Dorset Energized - an exciting Dorset initiative that aims to expand both by county and nationally in the UK. The site will promote the benefits of renewable energy from electric cars, to solar panels, to wind turbines, and is aimed specifically at the general public and small businesses.

After putting forward our concept for the overall look and feel for the website, we are delighted the project has got the go ahead for funding, and hope that we can lead the way here in Dorset and get people 'energized' with renewable energy.

The full site is set to launch in Spring 2012 and currently has a holding page up with a mailing list sign-up form and social networking share options.

Customised Facebook Pages

Facebook have recently made a major change to the way tabs can be added to Facebook Pages (previously called 'fan pages'), by replacing the FBML with a much simpler iframe. This means that you can now have your own customised Facebook pages to tie in with your website and branding and offer exclusive content for 'fans' (people who 'like' your page).

I have now set up my first customised Facebook pages for Compassion Dorset and have also set up FB pages for Prosperon Networks and am available for other FB page design commissions.

Frank & Faith Ethical Fashion Site Refresh

Dorset based ethical fashion label Frank & Faith have continued to return to me for site updates since I designed their site back in Autumn 2007, and the site is now undergoing a simple makeover for Spring 2011 with a new footer making more use of social networking, and using the new 'Made in the UK' flag graphic created by my Associate Partner Illustrator Stu Jones for their trade shows.

Frank & Faith's Founder and Director Anya Pearson has also been helping Stu and I to promote our charity t-shirts designed under our animal welfare group Compassionate Dorset in aid of Compassion in World Farming, and it was thanks to her efforts that our tees were featured in the top selling women's fashion magazine Cosmopolitan (February 2011 issue).

Andrew Stone Architect Site Refresh

I originally designed a simple micro-site back in 2006 for Dorset based Andrew Stone Architect who specialises in classical architecture and restoration work for traditional buildings.

The plan was always to allow the site to grow as the new business grew, and having returned to me for site updates with completed projects in 2008, I am now working on a refresh of the site for Spring 2011 with a much more in-depth gallery of completed projects and work in progress.

I have since starting working with Pete by briefing him for photoshoots for my client's websites including Belt-Up Bags and for my Dad's TV show on Sky 200 Nick Ashron's Lightworker's Guide to the Galaxy.
